SAMHSA Emergency Response Grant (SERG)

Local Outreach to Suicide Survivors (LOSS)

This one-day training will educate individuals on the LOSS suicide prevention model and can prepare Local Mental Health Authority (LMHA) to formulate and deploy LOSS Teams. The four LMHAs participating in forming a team are Gulf Coast Center, Spindletop Center, Coastal Plains Center, and Behavioral Health Center of Nueces County. LOSS Teams are a suicide prevention model incorporating trained suicide loss survivors in suicide prevention and intervention. LOSS teams are dispatched to provide support following a suicide and information to family members about community resources and have been found to be highly effective at engaging individuals in mental health services quickly.
Requirement:
This training is designed for individuals identified by the LMHA that are willing to be part of a LOSS team to serve the counties specific to the LMHA.
